Discovery Center's Pre-School Program is open to children 2 years to 6 years old.
Instruction
Discovery
Center follows a western approach to teaching young children. Throughout
the morning, a combination of child-directed and teacher-directed activities
are held. The focal word is activities as children in Discovery
Center learn through doing, not through watching.
During “learning center time” the children progress through different learning centers with a teacher at each center to guide them. Records are kept on the progress of each child in each center. The materials themselves are the key to teaching the child. The teacher helps the children re-start previous activities, guides them in new activities and records their progress.
For teacher-directed activities, the children are grouped according to
age in groups of 8 to 12. One teacher and two assistant teachers work
with each group. Activities include music, dance, art, story, drama, yoga,
physical education, science, social awareness and cooking. There are 3
to 4 group activities per day.
Snack time
Cooking classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays wherein the
teachers show the children how to make sandwiches, 
fruit
salads, vegetable soup, cake, cookies and muffins. The children, under
the guidance of their teachers, prepare the snacks.
Snacks on Tuesdays and Thursdays are prepared by the teaching staff: i.e., popcorn, savory biscuits, peanut butter on crackers, fruit, etc. Juice, milk or bottled water is served with all snacks. Bottled water is available throughout the morning.

Program Hours
2 years to 4 years - 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 12:00pm (or 1:00 p.m.)
4 years to 6 years old - 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or 1:00 p.m.)
Days Open
Discovery Center is open Monday through Friday. For children less than 4 years old,
we have programs 3, 4, and 5 days per week. All children 4 years to 5 years attend 5 days per week.
Parents should call and book an appointment if they would like to visit the school and view the programs first-hand.
Yearly Calendar
Discovery Center follows the Jakarta International School elementary school calendar, beginning mid-August and finishing early-June with a 3-week year end holiday (December/January).
Term I runs from August through early November. The Term II runs from November through early March. Term III runs from March through early June.
Progress reports are given at the end of each term.
